Summary of Job Duties:Three Ph.D. level graduate research assistantships focused on aquaculture are available starting spring, 2022.

The Department of Aquaculture and Fisheries seeks 3 highly motivated individuals from these groups (e.g., females, African Americans, Native Americans, Hispanic, etc.) to participate in a rigorous academic and professional development program culminating in a PhD to prepare them for high-level careers in aquaculture and fisheries. Each student will focus on one of the following project areas: 1) Fish physiology; 2) Fish health; or 3) Fish nutrition. Faculty advisors will mentor students in research projects that will require close interaction with industry professionals and stakeholders, academics, and/or state and federal government agencies. Students will also obtain leadership training through a combination of on-campus and professional activities.

Minimum Qualifications

The successful candidate must be a US citizen, and have an M.S. degree from an accredited institution of higher education in an aquaculture, fisheries, agriculture, natural resources or related scientific discipline. Minimum GPA during the M.S. studies must be 3.0 on a 4-point scale. Minimum GRE score must be 297 (combined verbal and quantitative). Three letters of recommendation are required as well as a copy of Immunization Records, including MMR. In addition, submit an essay (500 word maximum) to the graduate coordinator (xiel@uapb.edu) specifically addressing how the fellowship will help you pursue a high-level career in the targeted shortage area of (aquatic) animal production.
