Summary of Job Duties:Program Associates operate in an independent, decision-making role in the planning & execution of programs. Work objectives are coordinated with Project Leaders and/or other supervisors, but project implementation & management are primarily the responsibilities of the Program Associate. Program Associates are expected to contribute effectively to conceptual framework, program design, result dissemination, educational activities, & the pursuit of extramural financial support. Duty station will be the Rice Research and Extension Center.

Duties include some laboratory but mostly field activities in agricultural research and outreach. Duties include establishing large plot research trials, scouting and managing crops, establishing on-farm research. Includes but not limited to repairing and installing equipment, planting crops, harvesting crops, operating large equipment, GPS equipment, spraying crops, retrieving information from data logging equipment, data collection, data summarization and statistical analysis for field experiments. The employee must be able to perform physical work such as lifting a minimum weight of 50 pounds, operate large and small tractors, sprayers, and combines. The job also requires driving long distances and walking and working on cooperating producer farms.
Duties include assisting with the facilitation of the Arkansas Irrigation Yield Contest. IWM practices include multiple inlet rice irrigation, computerized hole selection, surge irrigation, soil moisture monitoring, tail water recovery, and ET based scheduling. The individual also will assist the water management engineer in development of materials for reports, publications, extension programs and research presentations. Other responsibilities include construction and monitoring and reporting of new irrigation technologies on working farms, including a novel tailwater and automation system for rice irrigation and other technology as requiredQualifications:

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's in Mechanized Systems Management, Agriculture Technology Management, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Engineering, Agronomy, Soil Science, Crop Science or related technical agricultural or environmental field plus three years of related experience OR a Master's degree in a related field.

Preferred Qualifications
M.S. in related field. Experience and /or knowledge of farming and familiarity with irrigation, engines, pumps, farm machinery and producing crops is desirable. Certified Crop Advisor or ability to obtain highly desirable.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, data management, and email programs. A high level of technical competence in irrigation. Ability to develop and deliver presentations. Ability to exercise initiative, make sound judgments, and work independently. Ability to relate and respond to the needs of supervisors, subordinates, and clientele. The employee must be able to perform physical work such as lifting a minimum weight of 50 pounds and operate ATV.
