Substitutes play a huge role in a school district by allowing classroom instruction to continue when a teacher is absent.

Substitute Teacher Pay: (set by district) $100 per full day

OVERVIEW: An ESS substitute teacher assists with classroom instruction in the absence of a regular teacher. This person follows and teaches lesson plans, aids students in understanding subject matter, and ensures that regular classroom routines are followed. As a substitute teacher, you'll become an integral part of a school's educational team, amplifying your teaching expertise while maximizing the learning experience for students!

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide meaningful instruction to students in assigned classrooms while the regular teacher is absent.
  • Review and implement the regular teacher's routines, procedures, lesson plans, and curriculum objectives.
  • Establish and maintain a safe and orderly classroom environment.
  • Report any student injuries, illness, and serious discipline problems to the school administration.
  • Evaluate and grade student's class work, assignments, and papers.
  • Maintain student attendance records.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the school administration
  • Other duties as assigned or as become evident.

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.

Math Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide.

Reasoning Abilities

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but involved written or oral instructions.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, and TRAINING:

High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED)

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS

Arkansas Background Check and a DHS Child Maltreatment Central Registry Check are both required. ESS offers a reimbursement program for background check related fees.

This position works in an environment with moderate noise level. (Examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic.)
