Summary of Job Duties:The Custodian is responsible for general cleaning of areas in and around office buildings, class rooms, lecture halls, conference rooms, auditoriums, resident halls, dining areas, building common areas, and other areas as required. This is a part-time (50%) benefits-eligible position. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.Qualifications:

Required Education &/or Experience:

  • Formal education is equivalent to a high school diploma.
  • This position will work 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm;
  • Must be able to work a flexible work shift including nights and weekends for campus event coverage.

Preferred Education &/or Experience:

  • Six months of experience in general cleaning of office buildings, classrooms, laboratories, auditoriums, or other similar areas;
  • Experience working on a college campus.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Dust mop, wet mop, and use an upright vacuum cleaner;
  • Handle house cleaner carts;
  • Empty wastebaskets, replace trash bags, and dump trash;
  • Dust wipe desktops, tables, shelves, etc. Some shelves may be over the head in height;
  • Replace tissue paper, paper towels, and soap;
  • Clean floors by sweeping, vacuuming, and mopping as required;
  • Clean restroom facilities, offices, and classrooms, including desktops and chalkboards;
  • Assist with paper recycle pick up;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

  • Knowledge of basic cleaning techniques;
  • Knowledge of cleaning equipment operation and maintenance;
  • Ability to use cleansers and other agents to clean floors and furniture;
  • Ability to use housekeeping cleaning supplies and equipment;
  • Ability to work independently without close supervision;
  • Ability to follow oral and/or written instructions;
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks and prioritize assignments;
  • Ability to perform repetitive manual work;
  • Must be able to work a flexible work shift including nights and weekends for campus event coverage.
