Department:COM | Otolaryngology Center for Hearing Health Equity

Summary of Job Duties:The Research Associate (RA) will join the team of a new Center for Hearing Health Equity at UAMS. The Center is leading multiple NIH-funded research projects to address disparities in hearing loss and serves as the coordinating center for two major research networks, including an international network comprised of collaborators from 28 countries and a national network with 6 sites. The RA will serve as a scientific coordinator for the Center. The RA will be actively involved in local, domestic, and international projects, including all aspects of stakeholder engagement, study coordination, rigorous scientific execution, and dissemination, as well as partnering with local stakeholders to facilitate recruitment and retention. The RA will facilitate regulatory requirements and ethical reviews, informed consent, and coordination of data collection, including development of data collection tools, working closely with the data manager and local stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate data collection, and managing databases and study files with established data quality control and security protocols. A particular focus of this position will be projects occurring in rural Alaska, and prior experience with the state and cultures there is highly valued.

This position requires critical thinking, independence, and willingness to travel. The Research Associate will be a part of a larger team working to address hearing health disparities in underserved populations across rural America and internationally.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in health, business, or related field PLUS at least five years of public health research experience, project coordination, or related experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated interest in health disparities and/or global health
  • Graduate training in related healthcare fields, such as audiology, public health, and/or global health

Responsibilities

  • Recruits and consent participants
  • Plans and conducts study-related activities
  • Plans, implements, and coordinates systems designed to monitor the collection, storing, cleaning and dissemination of data for qualitative and quantitative study componentswith strong scientific rigor
  • Coordinates team members, including scientific team members, project personnel, stakeholder team members, and participants. This will include supporting meetings across institutions and time zones and broadly facilitating project communication.
  • Supports community partners participating in the Center's studies, such as schools, teachers, community health workers, and local clinicians
  • Responds to inquiries about the projects according to established policies and procedures
  • Facilitates regulatory requirements, institutional review boards, and ethical committees necessary for local, domestic, and international research projects
  • Works with statistical and data management team members to review and evaluate both qualitative and quantitative data monitoring systems to determine consistency of data collected from various sources; recommend changes and modifications to systems as required to ensure timeliness, accuracy, and efficiency.
  • Prepares reports and participates in qualitative and quantitative data analyses
  • Assists with dissemination of research project findings through manuscript preparation and community outreach
  • Assists with grant preparation for future projects
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
