Engineering & Projects Manager

We are experiencing strong ongoing demand and have recently moved into a brand-new facility inHaverhill, MA.Haverhill offers beautiful sights and is located half-way between the City of Boston and the beautiful New England Seacoast.

The Engineering & Projects Manager will play a crucial role for the PC Haverhill organization, providing leadership for sustainable profitable growth targets for Semiconductor and Semiconductor Service Divisions through the management of engineering including New Product Introduction, Technology, and Sustaining Engineering of a highly competitive cryogenic and polycold product and integrated systems product portfolio.This person will provide functional management to engineering teams to ensure that the highest standards in technical quality, functionality, and cost are delivered in a timely manner. You will also be responsible for the overall delivery of projects to cost, spec, and schedule in line with divisional and product company commitments.

Additionally, you will:

  • Deliver continuous improvement in the engineering capability, processes, and technology to maintain a competitive advantage in the marketplace and to internal and legislative standard.
  • Build the culture and a strong, competent, effective and motivated team scaled to the agreed business objectives.
  • Champion engineering integration and collaborate activities across CTI-P product lines globally.
  • Support and lead on company-wide engineering and product company objectives.
  • Maintain the delegated Technical Authority for all CTI-P Products and product lines.


  • Through engaging leadership, development & empowerment of people, strengthen the abatement engineering organization. Drive effective employee recruitment, retention, objective setting, competency, and organizational structure development.
  • Develop positive relationships to promote collaboration between technical, marketing, sales, procurement, service and operations functions to rapidly identify, assesses and develop viable class leading products which deliver profitable growth.
  • Identify the future talent pipeline including succession planning. Manage by coaching, mentoring, and developing the team to solve ever more ambitious challenges.
  • Provide direction and support to all team members, managing and facilitating their performance and ensuring any performance issues that become apparent are addressed.
  • Support the team, ensuring clear and SMART objectives are setinline with thebusinesses vision,tracking the progress of objectives and conducting monthly 1:1s with direct reportsas well as appropriateteam governance.
  • Responsible for the high-level definition, planning, execution and timely delivery of best in class new and derivative products.
    1. To specification, on time, on budget, to product cost & quality targets
    2. In full compliance with legislative, company & industrial standards.
    3. With operational, service & support requirements fully met.
    4. In compliance with Edwards Product Commercialization Process.
    5. Aligned to Semiconductor and Semiconductor Service Divisional product roadmaps agreed roadmaps and customer order schedules.
  • Responsible for ensuring a highly responsive support function delivering the highest levels of quality and support to design, customer and factory improvements.
  • Ensure the product portfolio meets legislative, industrial and corporate standards through design, safety review and certification processes. Act as delegated signatory for key technical authority documentation.
  • Drive innovation, identifying IP opportunities for new products. Also identify threats and maintain awareness of competitor and wider industry solutions.
  • Ensure that the team has a clear strategy and is empowered for the successful transition of new technologies into the NPI team and subsequently the transition of new products into Sustaining Engineering.
  • Ensure the engineering leadership team role model the Atlas Copco values and cultural beliefs in the way they work and lead their team, and they will support the agreed engineering organization design principles of Culture, People and Structure, Agility and Flexibility, Global Footprint, and Resilience.


  • Degree level or higher in an engineering or science discipline
  • 10 years engineering experience at a management level including of new product development programs, operations, and support activities.
  • Technical knowledge of abatement technologies, systemized products, and their applications in the marketplace is an advantage.
  • Experience and understanding of product development and its lifecycle.
  • A proven ability to manage projects and activities, delivering on time, to specification and cost targets .
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Sufficient business/commercial awareness to make appropriate proposals to balance potentially conflicting commercial and technical drivers and priorities.
  • Management expertise to build & develop a cohesive team, to provide leadership & direction, and to foster good communications across project teams & functions.
  • Influencing, communication, presentation and negotiating skills at the highest levels, both internally and externally. Able to achieve credibility and command respect. Influencing across functional boundaries is a key element of this role.


The Engineering & Projects Manager will report to the Product Company General Manager and will receive functional guidance from the VP Engineering for the Division. The role requires close interaction with the Program Management, Operational, and Customer Support Departments as well as Divisional Program Managers and Marketing / Product Managers.

The Engineering & Projects Manager is responsible for ensuring the highest level of quality in the engineering function, developing and executing high level roadmaps and activity schedules, defining budgets and ensuring a strong level of competency to ensure a highly competitive product portfolio which meets time, cost & quality targets.

The Engineering & Project Manager needs to exhibit authority, credibility and gain respect at high level across a wide range of functions within the company.

As part of the Haverhill Product Company management team the Engineering & Projects Manager will also be involved in supporting the site wide Product Company strategy under the guidance of the General Manager.

  • The scope of this role is direct line management of the CTI-P engineering teams
  • Budgetary responsibility ~$15m (Resources and Materials - excludes Capex)
  • Headcount ~70 heads across the various engineering teams
