Summary of Job Duties:The University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service invites applications for an Associate Dean position. Located on the campus of the William J. Clinton Presidential Center in Little Rock, Arkansas, the school offers the first Master of Public Service (MPS) degree in the nation. The Clinton School of Public Service embarks on an exciting time as the school approaches its 20th anniversary and actively seeks to build out its impact.

The Clinton School seeks a proven academic leader who has the qualities to enrich the Clinton School's academic mission that integrates a high quality classroom experience with rigorous applied research and immersive field service. The Clinton School is a multidisciplinary program that promotes a vision of world leaders who work with others to build healthy, engaged and vibrant communities. The mission of the School is to educate and prepare professionals in public service who understand, engage, and transform complex social, cultural, economic, and political systems to ensure equity and effect positive social change.

The next Associate Dean (Executive Vice President/Provost) serves as the institution's Chief Academic Officer and reports directly to the Dean. The Associate Dean (Executive Vice President/Provost) will work closely with the Dean, institutional partners, faculty and staff to lead the academic enterprise of the Clinton School. Specifically, the Associate Dean will advance academic excellence in teaching and research as well as supporting student learning success on campus and online. The successful candidate will have the ability to manage a complex organization, oversee research and academic planning; assessment and curriculum review; faculty hiring and evaluation; and program accreditation.

The Clinton School seeks candidates with a record of accomplishments to qualify for appointment at the rank of Professor in a broad range of social science disciplines or cross-disciplinary program areas. Duties and Responsibilities:

Faculty
Supervise and mentor faculty
Work closely with each faculty member to understand her or his individual needs and goals
Work with faculty as a whole to understand the academic needs of the Clinton School from their perspective
Create and distribute course-load assignments
Review and share student evaluations each semester addressing any noted concerns
Conduct an annual evaluation of full-time and part-time faculty
Includes peer-evaluation, self-evaluation and academic dean's evaluation
Participate in 3rd-year review, tenure and promotion processes
Develop, implement and monitor needed academic processes and policies
Keep faculty aware of and informed about new and existing policies and processes from external entities (e.g., UALR, UA System, ADHE)
Model and encourage collegiality
Advocate for faculty resources
Manage faculty resources
Oversee research support

Students
Provide an overview of Clinton School academic processes and policies
Provide oversight for processes
Enforce policies as needed
Connect students to appropriate services as needed
Initiate formal meetings related to academic performance or professional behavior

Instructional
Availability to serve as an advisor to Capstone projects
Teach one course per semester

Staff
Oversee academic-related projects
Problem solve as needed
General
Be aware of all UA System, Arkansas Department of Higher Education, and Higher Learning Commission policies that affect the Clinton School and ensure its compliance
Liaise with the Clinton School's partner institutions (UAF, UALR, UAMS), the Arkansas Department of Higher Education, the Higher Learning Commission and others as needed (e.g., VA, etc)

Working Relationships: Dean/Faculty/Staff/Students of the Clinton School; appropriate staff/departments of sponsoring institutions (UAF, UALR, UAMS); appropriate staff/departments of the U of A System Office; HLC; ADHE. Dean of the Clinton School is Academic Dean's direct report.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Terminal degree in a field represented by the School conferred by the start of employment

  • Experience in higher education leadership

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:

  • Excellent problem-solving skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to lead the Clinton School on-campus and online academic programs

  • Ability to exercise judgment, discretion and initiative in carrying out duties of academic dean
