www.ualr.edu/childrenSummary of Job Duties:UA Little Rock Children International is an extension of UA Little Rock's commitment to service and community engagement. As Arkansas' premier metropolitan university, UA Little Rock is committed to the needs of the community by creating active links between the campus and community. Children International works with parents, the Little Rock School District and partners to offer educational, health, and family services for 2,000 children, kindergarten through high school as well as young adults ages 18-24 year old.

The Instructor will teach (Dance, Art, Cooking, STEM, College/Career or Leadership) a group of 15- 20 students in grade K/1st - 5th during the enrichment component of UA Little Rock Children International Afterschool Program at Bale Elementary and/or Dunbar Middle Schools in person. Enrichment sessions & preparation are scheduled between 4 - 6 pm Monday- Thursday at Bale and Dunbar. Instructors must be able to work at least two days a week (MW or TTh) for. This is a grant-funded hourly position effective September 2022 to May 2023. This position is governed by state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy.Qualifications:

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma plus one (1) year of specialized training or experience in the area of expertise;
  • One (1) year of experience teaching or facilitating groups of elementary or middle school-age children in a formal setting.

Preferred Education and/or Experience:

  • College degree, teaching certification, or advanced certification in area of expertise preferred but not required.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop & teach hands-on, skills-based lessons in Dance, Art, Cooking, STEM, College & Career, or Leadership/life skills enrichments);
  • Submit a course syllabus at the beginning of each semester (submit bi-weekly reports on skills taught);
  • Prepare students to demonstrate their learning in a real-world setting (performance, competition, etc.);
  • Create and maintain an active, engaging, and safe learning environment;
  • Serve as a positive role model to all students;
  • Ensure all children are properly supervised and safe at all times;
  • Other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, & SKILLS:

  • Demonstrated ability/expertise in the field;
  • Demonstrated ability to teach and manage groups of mixed-age elementary or middle school children;
  • Ability to inspire students and create a stimulating learning environment;
  • Energetic and passionate about being a role model for all youth;
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills;
  • Spanish helpful;
  • Must be available on set program days, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 3pm-5:15 pm or 4 pm-6:15 pm;
  • Must provide own transportation to the site;
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
