Job Description

The Lead Maintenance Technician will set up, adjust, operate and maintain various automated production equipment in a modern and complex food production facility. Coordinates, schedules, and executes the planned and day-to-day activities of the Maintenance Department to ensure the plant meets department and overall plant goals of safety, quality and productivity. Oversees and when necessary, trains maintenance technicians. All work is to be performed in a manner that complies with all federal, state, local, BRC, and company rules and regulations and with optimum regard for Plant Safety.

Principal Job Duties:

  • Schedule and prioritize planned work orders with the day-to-day maintenance issues.
  • Record and report on day's activities to maintenance supervisor as well at shift handoff meeting.
  • Provide direction and when necessary, training to maintenance technicians.
  • Troubleshoot, repair and maintain plant machinery and equipment.
  • Troubleshoot, repair or replace control devices such as switches, photo eyes, proximity sensors, pushbuttons, contactors, motor starters, etc. as needed
  • Troubleshoot, repair or replace roaster components such as burners, valves, bearings, scrapers, etc.
  • Troubleshoot, repair or replace hydraulic, pneumatic and basic electrical power components.
  • Perform work order repairs, inspections and adjustments as well as preventative and predictive maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to set up and operate metal working equipment such as hand tools, welders, drill press, sheet metal equipment, or grinders.
  • Works closely with production and warehouse personnel to effectively resolve and eliminate plant and process problems.
  • Works in conjunction with maintenance and production to cross train on system maintenance to obtain adequate coverage across all shifts.
  • Assist management in developing standard operating procedures, and duty cycles for all repairs and maintenance, relating to process and packaging equipment.
  • Required to interpret and understand plans and specifications, schematics, operating and maintenance manuals for systems being overseen.
  • Performs all other duties, responsibilities, and special projects as assigned.
  • Participates in plant safety, BRC, health and environmental programs.

Qualifications:

  • Require Technical College/PLC Certification course or higher education
  • Require minimum of 5 years' experience in a Consumer-Packaged Goods (CPG) environment with in depth knowledge of high speed liquid filing in a large bottling or canning establishment.
  • Require experience with retorts/pasteurizers, fillers, depalletisors , packers , cartoners, shrink wrappers , coding machines , 3-phase motors, gearboxes, bearings, solenoid values, vacuum pumps, chains, sprockets, belts, rollers, star wheels, pneumatics, chillers, contactors, relays, fuses, breakers, photoelectric sensors, and ultrasonic sensors.
  • Require applicants to certificate as a CMT-2 through IMI (International Maintenance Institute) within 6 months of placement
  • Require validation from management on "subject matter expert" on in house equipment
  • Required to hold a certification in Welding
  • Must be able to read and understand complex instructions, prints, flowcharts, timing diagrams, and schematics
  • Must have able to clearly articulate and relay instructions to a variety of personnel ranging from upper management to other hourly associates
  • Must have ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Must have ability to speak effectively before groups, customers/vendors, or employees of the organization
  • CMRT certification highly preferred
  • Prefer Industrial Electrician Certification
  • Prefer 8+ years' experience of manufacturing maintenance in a food grade facility
  • Allen Bradley VFD training preferred
  • Prefer experience with fabricating various plastics and metals into various shapes and structures as needed
  • Must have positive conflict management skills.
