Job Description

The FSQA Technician I will perform quality control checks on raw materials, in-line process, and finished products during the production cycle to ensure items meet food safety standards, quality standard and safety regulations. The technician will also verify process parameters, including temperature checks, metal detector checks, flow rate, and may require sensory. The technician may be required to operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments. The technician will verify inline quality checks by the production team members as well as production records. The FSQA Technician I will report to the FSQA Supervisor of the respective area.

Principal Job Functions:

  • Perform inspections real-time on all types of packaging to ensure every product is produced within required parameters.
  • Perform inspections throughout the process to ensure quality standards and evaluate work performed by production and QA techs.
  • Assure all products meet specification requirements and follow FSMA and Global Food Safety guidelines to ensure the finished product meets food safety and quality requirements.
  • Perform quality checks (vacuum, headspace, temperature, sensory, can seam measurements, color, weights, packaging date codes, packaging integrity, etc.) of product startups and ongoing basis during production.
  • Record and document inspection results and compare to expected results to identify record quality failures to be corrected.
  • Input accurate results from testing into a quality database and complete all required documentation of laboratory samples and testing results.
  • Identify and segregate nonconforming goods for proper disposition and notify QA Supervisor, manager, and director of FSQA.
  • Check that raw materials or components involved in the production process are of suitable quality.
  • Visually inspect finished product containers.
  • Conduct relevant testing of products on hold and rework as assigned.
  • Assist with the investigation of customer complaints and quality reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data.
  • Perform general daily housekeeping in work area to maintain a quality/safe working environment.
  • Collect, organize, and set up product samples for sensory evaluation.
  • Calibrate and maintain lab equipment as a laboratory technician.
  • Follow all policies, procedures, standards, safety, and GMP requirements.
  • Contribute to team efforts by accomplishing related tasks as needed and performing other duties as requested by management.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 1-2 years' experience with quality inspection, auditing, data collection, and testing.
  • Experience and knowledge with Microsoft Office and Office-based database systems.
  • Ability to understand department documents
  • Ability to display sound logic and attention to details.
  • Ability to communicate comfortably and work with co-workers in a team environment.
  • Ability to follow a schedule, as well as verbal and written instructions.
  • Read and speak English.
  • Bachelors or Associate degree in a program in a science field or quality technology preferred
  • Experience in food manufacturing preferred
  • Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Sound Math skills e.g. Percent Calculations, averages, means, standard deviation etc.
  • Respond quickly to information request from internal and external customers.
  • Ability to follow SOPs
