Summary of Job Duties:The selected applicant will work on Dr. Quadros' small ruminant applied research and extension program. The selected applicant will be involved in interdisciplinary applied research projects that may study different areas related to small ruminants (e.g., genetics, forages, nutrition, facilities, reproduction, health, quality of the products - meat, milk, fiber) by planning and implementing trials, collecting and analyzing samples, performing statistical data analysis and writing papers to be published in peer-reviewed journals.

Additionally, the selected applicant will produce research-based extension publications and technical content in multiple areas related to small ruminant production and marketing (e.g., genetics, forages and pastures, nutrition, facilities, reproduction, health, economics) to diverse media outlets, including but not limited to UADA small ruminant webpage, newsletter, blog, and social media. Participation in writing grant proposals is expected.

The selected applicant will have the opportunity to learn a range of field and laboratory techniques, conduct research and extension projects, participate in farm visits to assist county extension agents and farmers, organize events and be a speaker in some events/trainings as directed by the PI.

Depending on the program's needs, assisting with undergraduate and graduate students' projects may also be expected. This position is a full-time, twenty-four-month appointment. Some evening and weekend commitments will be expected.Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD and educational training in Animal Science or Veterinary Science.
  • Knowledge and experience of working with small ruminants

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • Scholarly record.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work independently and as a team member in a collaborative setting.
  • Additionally, the candidate must be able to work with animals in their natural environment, collect samples, analyze data, possess a valid driver's license, lift 50 pounds, operate farm equipment, and traverse uneven terrain.
