Summary of Job Duties:This position is a 12-month, full-time, grant-funded appointment. The Career Coach reports to the Vice Chancellor for Student Services and will be co-located at the East End School District (Bigelow, AR area) and Mayflower School District (Mayflower, AR). The Career Coach will focus on those students identified as most in need of career planning. The Career Coach will identify these students through their middle/high schools and provide coaching and guidance to help them aspire to post-secondary education, workforce training, and/or apprenticeships as the means to a career that will afford economic self-sufficiency. Travel between locations will be required.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Providing early outreach to low-income students with information about the importance of post-secondary education, as well as accurate information on how to prepare, apply, and pay for it.

Providing interest inventories and skills assessments to assist individuals in making informed career decisions.

Facilitating the development of individual career plans and portfolios.

Assisting students with enrolling in education or training programs.

Providing information on careers, career pathways, and educational requirements.

Providing opportunities for job shadowing, mentoring, internships, visits to business and industry, and other career awareness activities.

Providing or connecting low-income students to support services that will ease the transition to post-secondary education.

Connecting educationally disadvantaged students to "bridge programs" that teach basic academic skills in the context of training for advancement to better jobs and post-secondary education.

Connecting students to academic enrichment activities such as study groups, tutoring, and workshops on study skills.

Providing a continuum of career guidance to ease the transition from middle school to high school to post-secondary education or training and ultimately to the workplace.

Effectively handles sensitive issues and maintains confidentiality.

Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Holds a Facilitating Career Development (FCD) credential. If no FCD credential is held, candidates may be considered for the position under the condition of successfully completing the FCD credential course within one year of employment.

Other job-related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of the minimum qualifications upon approval of the Chancellor.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Holds a valid Facilitating Career Development (FCD) credential.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing to individuals and large groups.

  • Proficient in the use of computer software and applications, such as but not limited to, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Access.

  • Knowledge of office management principles, methods, and procedures with the ability to implement.

  • Able to perform basic research, analyze information and prepare reports in a logical and informative manner.

  • Able to problem solve, organize and prioritize work, multi-task, and be flexible and accepting of change.

Salary Information:

Salary Range: $40,000 to $44,000
