Summary of Job Duties:Physician Assistant, Certified (PA-C) Practice by the PA-C means the performance for compensation of clinical care performed by a Physician Assistant who, as demonstrated by national board certification, has advanced medical knowledge and practice skills and is licensed to practice medicine by the state medical board under physician supervision.Qualifications:

Licensed as a Physician Assistant in the State of Arkansas or eligible for licensure.

Responsibilities:

  • Obtains a comprehensive medical history, performs physical examination both focused and comprehensive, depending on patient needs, identifies medical and health risks, updates and records changes in health status, assesses mental and functional status formulates an appropriate differential diagnosis based on the history, physical exam, and clinical findings.

  • Identifies the needs of the individual and family as a result of the patient interview (history) and physical exam.

  • Provides an acceptable plan of care that maximizes the patient's health potential and takes into account.

  • Ordering the appropriate diagnostic tests, identifying and prescribing appropriate pharmacological agents when needed, and developing a plan for education of the patient and their family or caregiver.

  • Consult with supervising physician(s) and other health professionals when needed.

  • Obtain history and physical examination on inpatients.

  • Assess patient symptoms, vital signs, and nursing reports, and order labs, and radiographs while the patient is admitted to the hospital.

  • Enter nursing orders, prescribe medications, and perform bedside dressing changes and simple procedures to expedite patient care.

  • Organize discharge instructions, and prescriptions and coordinate follow-up appointments.

  • Expedite the start of surgical cases and the appropriate participation of the patient for surgery.

  • Educate the patient on the details of surgery and post-operative management.

  • Provide patient and family with written post-operative and discharge instructions, prescriptions, and follow-up dates.

  • Performs procedures on pediatric and adult plastic surgery patients under the supervision of the surgeon(s).

  • First, assist surgeon(s) during surgery as needed.

  • Participates in monthly plastic surgery conference/morbidity and mortality conference.

  • Instruct residents, nurses, medical students, and physician assistant students; present clinical cases to appropriate members of the research and surgical teams.

  • Organize OR calendar, book OR cases, and coordinate follow-up.

  • Assist with clinical data collection and prepare reports using data collected.

  • Identify potential research candidates by attending clinics, conferences, and patient rounds.

  • Screens potential patients to determine eligibility.

  • Assist in enrolling patients in research protocols.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
