GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

The Director, Corporate Counsel will be a member of the regulatory team within the Justice League of DaVita (JLD). The individual will provide legal guidance and support to DaVita on regulatory and compliance related matters as they arise with respect to Hospital Services Group (HSG), a business unit of DaVita that provides acute inpatient dialysis and dialysis related services to hospitals and their patients. Additionally, this person will support our discharge planning service Patient Pathways.This individual will also work with several regions of the country and support the contracting work related to HSG and Patient Pathways.

This position requires expertise in the Federal healthcare regulatory laws, including the False Claims Act, the Anti-Kickback Statute, and their implementing regulations, as well as experience reviewing state health care regulations. The attorney should also have experience in legal drafting, preferably contract drafting, and past experience working with or in a hospital setting.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Serve as legal regulatory counsel and strategic partner to DaVita, with a primary emphasis on support for HSG contracting, as well as providing legal guidance based on healthcare laws and regulations. In partnership with other DaVita attorneys and compliance teammates, assist business clients in identifying and resolving legal/regulatory matters related to business initiatives involving state nursing scope of practice regulations. Advise on compliance with federal and state health care industry laws and regulations. Support all aspects of HSG and Pathways business related to their service offerings. Develop working relationships with business clients, as well as legal and compliance partners.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Juris Doctorate degree with approximately 4+ years of experience in legal practice representing businesses and/or organizations in the health care industry.
  • Provide legal counsel on a variety of healthcare business, corporate, and commercial matters arising in day-to-day operations of a complex organization in a heavily regulated environment.
  • Strong transactional and drafting skills, with an emphasis on practical and appropriate solutions.
  • Draft, review, analyze, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and other legal documents to which the company intends to become a party.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and appropriately prioritize assignments.
  • Perform special assignments as needed.
  • Support and collaborate with other areas of the JLD and Compliance.
  • At least one state bar admission and in good standing, with the ability to waive into Colorado, if needed.
  • Substantial knowledge of the Medicare program and health care fraud and abuse laws and regulations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple matters and priorities at one time in a fast-paced environment.
  • High degree of maturity and professionalism and the ability to work in a collaborative, team environment.

Salary/ Wage Range

$110,100.00-$161,700.00 / year

Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies and experience and may fall outside of the range shown.
