Job Description

Our team in Military Aircraft Group is looking for a Quality Engineer to join them. You will report to the Quality Engineering Manager and will have an on-site work schedule in East Aurora, NY. The Quality Engineer will integrate metrology systems into automated manufacturing systems, including automated fabrication cell control loops, assembly cells, and into Moog's digital ecosystem. You will transition and support these solutions to production environments. Solutions will need to balance reliability, cost effectiveness, accuracy, and adaptability across Moog's wide range of parts and processes.

To be considered for Quality Engineer, here's what you'll need to bring with you:

  • Typically, a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or related field is required. However 10+ years of related experience will be accepted in lieu of a degree.
  • 5+ years' experience in metrology & measurement systems.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of GD&T and/or ASME Y14.5 current standards.
  • Knowledge and understanding of AS9100 along with in-depth knowledge of AS9102 form requirements is a plus.
  • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge and inspection techniques of Automated Measuring Machines. Some examples include Zeiss CMM's (Calypso): ShapeGrabber Laser Scanner (PolyWorks); RondCom; OGP SmartScope; Keyence; Schneider WMM; as site availability and product requires.
  • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of inspection techniques for machined components and equipment. Some examples of this include Depth Micrometers, Outside Micrometers, Air Gaging, Thread Gages, Optical Comparator, Surface Profilometer, Super Micrometers, gage pins, etc.
  • Practical experience and technical knowledge of a wide variety of gages, measuring and test equipment used in inspection of precision machined parts, approval of new fixturing and tooling.
  • Project management skills a plus.
  • Ability to travel up to 10%.

As a Quality Engineer, you will:

  • Select and purchase inspection equipment to support the manufacturing shop, including shop floor equipment, inspection lab equipment, or inspection equipment to support automation of manufacturing processes.
  • Meet drawing requirements.
  • Demonstrate superior problem solving skills, and unique ability to assess inspection risks due to variations in set-up, tools used, ambiguous instructions, measuring equipment limitations, human factors, and sub-optimum work holding methods.
  • Demonstrate exceptional interpersonal skills and team building qualities, and has been effective in resolving complex quality problems using a team approach.
  • Provide assistance and support with Quality Systems and quality audits when necessary.
  • Inspect parts using inspection techniques and layouts of varying complexity.
  • Provide assistance to manufacturing and production management to ensure inspection equipment exists and is capable of inspecting parts to the desired tolerances.
  • New inspection equipment onboarding including selecting, purchasing, locating, programming and training.
  • Conduct gage studies to identify potential sources of variation in inspection processes and where possible mitigate the inspection variation by working with metrology companies, manufacturing, and design.
  • Assist in the training of Automated Measurement Machine operators and Quality Inspectors as to best practice procedures and inspection techniques.
  • Create training documents for all new shop floor inspection equipment.
  • Use and understand measuring equipment on the shop floor.
  • Report issues and improvement opportunities to responsible Engineers and Management.
  • Project management for new inspection equipment onboarding.

Salary Range:

  • The base pay range for this opportunity is $80,000 - $115,000 per year.

Actual salaries will vary depending on many factors such as skills, experience, certifications and performance. The rate listed is just one component of Moog's total compensation package for employees.
